Nova Cycle Supply was launched in 1983 as an adjunct to Kennedy Cycles in Los Gatos California.
John Kennedy, the founder, and owner of Kennedy Cycles began designing and constructing racing framesets for U.S. Olympic and Pan-American Game contestants and realized the need for readily available “hi-tech” materials to create custom bikes. This was the launch of Nova Cycle Supply.
He began importing Columbus tubing from Milan, Italy, then later added Cinelli S.r.L. (Italy) and Tange Industries Ltd. (Japan). In time the list of products grew to include items from other Italian and Japanese companies as well as components from France, England, and Taiwan.
John’s son, Lon Kennedy, joined the family business in 1986, bringing his expertise in mechanical engineering and metallurgy.
In 1991 the Kennedy’s moved to the Sacramento area and took Nova Cycles with them. John, and his son, Lon continued to service the handmade bike enthusiasts until John’s retirement in 2015, putting Lon in the owner’s seat.
In 2017, Lon decided to focus on other areas and sell the family business.
In January 2021 Roland and I purchased Nova. We have been riding for many years and have enjoyed everything from casual rides with friends to racing in local crits and triathlons. We have three young children who also love riding. For years we have enjoyed seeing the passion and creativity that goes into handmade and custom bikes and want to bring Nova Cycles back to the important role it has played these past decades.
Roland continues in his career as an engineer, while I am responsible for Nova Cycles.
Becca Redding has continued as our shipping manager and brings knowledge and organization to our warehouse.
